Trilux DALI Office Lighting: KNX Integration for Smart Building Control

Trilux DALI-2 Luminaire Range

Trilux is a German luminaire manufacturer with a broad range of DALI and DALI-2 compliant office and industrial luminaires including the E-Line, Mirona, Mirona Fit, Arvo, and Pureva series. All current Trilux DALI luminaires are DALI-2 Part 209 compliant for integrated light sensors and Part 207 compliant for tunable white (DT8 Tc mode).

KNX/DALI Integration Architecture

KNX/DALI integration uses a dedicated gateway: Theben DALI Poet 1 or MDT DALI gateway bridge KNX TP to the DALI bus. Each Trilux DALI driver is addressed individually (0-63) or grouped into DALI groups (0-15). The DALI bus supports up to 64 individual devices per segment at up to 300m total cable length.

ETS6 Gateway Configuration

In ETS6, import the KNX/DALI gateway product database entry. Configure DALI groups to match the physical office zones: perimeter zone (group 0), central zone (group 1), meeting rooms (group 2). KNX group objects for each zone: DPT 5.001 (dimming level 0-100%), DPT 3.007 (relative dimming start/stop), DPT 1.001 (on/off).

Scene Control

ETS6 scene objects enable preset lighting combinations. Scene 1 (presentation): perimeter zone 30% warm white, projector zone 0%. Scene 2 (working): all zones 80% at 4000K. Scene 3 (cleaning): all zones 100% at 6500K. Scene recall via KNX DPT 18.001 (scene activate/store byte).

Tunable White Control

Trilux DT8 drivers receive two DALI commands: DAPC (arc power level for dimming) and Set Colour Temperature (Tc value in Mired). KNX DPT 5.001 controls the dimming level, KNX DPT 9.003 carries the colour temperature in Kelvin. The MDT DALI gateway converts Kelvin to Mired internally before sending the DALI DT8 command.

DALI-2 Input Devices

Trilux Arvo luminaires with integrated DALI-2 presence detector (Part 203) and light sensor (Part 304) send DALI Event messages when occupancy changes or measured illuminance changes. The KNX/DALI gateway receives these events and converts them to KNX telegrams for occupancy-based dimming logic.

Constant Light Control

The DALI-2 light sensor in Trilux Mirona sends measured illuminance via DALI Events. The KNX/DALI gateway converts this to DPT 9.004 (lux) and sends it to a KNX light controller (MDT SCN-LCRM.01), which maintains a 500 lux setpoint by continuously adjusting the DALI dimming level through a PID loop.

Human Centric Lighting

Trilux liveSPACE system provides pre-programmed correlated colour temperature profiles (warm morning, cool midday, warm evening). In KNX buildings without the liveSPACE controller, replicate the same effect by sending timed Tc Mired values from a KNX timer object to the DALI gateway: 3000K at 07:00, 6000K at 10:00, 4000K at 14:00, 3000K at 18:00.

DALI Emergency Integration

Trilux emergency drivers (DALI Part 202) with battery backup integrate into the DALI bus. The KNX/DALI gateway can query emergency status for each driver: battery charge level, mode (normal/emergency/inhibit). Map battery charge level to KNX DPT 5.001 for display on the building management visualisation.
