Satel ABAX2 Wireless Protocol: INTEGRA Integration and KNX Zone Mapping

SmartMāja Engineering Team·2028-04-02·10 min read

Satel ABAX2 is a professional bidirectional wireless system for building security and automation. Operating at 868 MHz with AES-128 encryption and TDMA polling, ABAX2 integrates with the Satel INTEGRA alarm panel and from there connects to KNX building automation via RS232 serial bridge or Ethernet ETHM-1 Plus module.

ABAX2 System Components

ACU-280 controller: DIN rail device communicating with INTEGRA panel via RS485 Kebus bus. Supports up to 150 ABAX2 wireless devices. Polling interval: 3 seconds (ACU-280 cycles through all enrolled sensors every 3s, detects communication loss within two missed cycles = 6 seconds alarm).

Key sensors: AMD-102 PIR motion detector (12m range, 90 degrees angle, 3-year battery CR123A, sabotage contact), ADD-200 magnetic door/window contact (surface mount, 5-year battery, two reed inputs), AMD-200 dual-tech PIR+microwave anti-masking detector, ATD-100 glass break (6m radius), ATF-100 temperature sensor (-20 to +55 degrees C), AFS-100 flood sensor, ASW-210 wireless output module (controls dry-contact devices remotely from ACU-280).

INTEGRA Panel Programming

In DLOADX software: Service > Hardware > ACU-280 settings. Enroll ABAX2 devices: select zone number, press enroll on sensor (hold tamper for 5s). Sensor appears with ID and signal level. Assign zone type: INSTANT (no delay, immediate alarm on trigger), DELAY-1 (entry delay, typically 30s for front door), NIGHT (active only in night mode), 24H (always active — used for flood, glass break).

INTEGRA 128-WRL version has integrated ABAX2 receiver (no separate ACU-280 needed for up to 48 wireless zones). For larger systems: INTEGRA 256 plus ACU-280 on Kebus RS485.

ETHM-1 Plus TCP/IP Bridge

SATEL ETHM-1 Plus Ethernet communicator: connects to INTEGRA RS232 port (INT-RS terminal). Provides: API access over TCP port 7094, JAVA monitoring application, IFTTT webhooks, and connection for third-party KNX bridges. Configure static IP in ETHM-1 web UI (http://ethm-ip). Enable API access, set integration password.

Home Assistant Satel INTEGRA integration (via HACS 'Satel INTEGRA' integration): enter ETHM-1 IP, port 7094, password. HA creates binary sensors for each INTEGRA zone. KNX integration bridge (HA KNX component): expose HA binary sensors as KNX group addresses. Zone 5 (living room AMD-102) violated -> HA sensor 'zone_5' = ON -> KNX GA 2/1/5 DPT 1.001 = 1. Latency: 0.5-1s (local LAN, no cloud).

Dry-Contact Bridge (No Network)

For maximum reliability without network dependency: INT-RS (RS232 expander) provides 8 relay outputs and 4 digital inputs. Program INTEGRA virtual output N to activate when Zone N violated. Wire virtual output relay to KNX binary input module (MDT BE-4000.02, terminal N). KNX binary input sends DPT 1.001 = 1 on contact close. Fully offline, relay response in under 100ms from sensor trigger.

Limitation: 8 relay outputs per INT-RS, 4 inputs. For more zones: use ETHM-1 Plus + HA bridge (unlimited zones).

Range in Masonry Buildings

ABAX2 868 MHz through materials: 25cm brick wall = -12 dB, 20cm reinforced concrete = -20 to -30 dB. ACU-280 link budget: approximately 70 dB. Single reinforced slab reduces to 40 dB margin — reliable. Two concrete slabs: 20 dB margin — marginal, add ARU-100 repeater on intermediate floor.

ARU-100 range extender: ABAX2 wireless relay device (mains-powered, DIN rail). Enroll on ACU-280, position between controller and distant sensor. ACU-280 polls ARU-100, ARU-100 polls sensors further away. One hop adds effective 80-100m in difficult building fabric.

ABAX2 vs Wired KNX Sensors

ABAX2 is not a replacement for wired KNX binary inputs in new construction — wired is always preferred (zero battery maintenance, faster response, better noise immunity). ABAX2 addresses retrofit scenarios: listed buildings where drilling is prohibited, temporary sensor deployment, or sensor positions where cabling is disproportionately expensive. Battery life (3-5 years typical) means a maintenance visit every project-defined service cycle.
