LOYTEC LGATE-900: Multi-Protocol Room Automation for Hotels and Offices

SmartMāja Engineering Team·2026-08-28·9 min read

The LOYTEC LGATE-900 is a DIN-rail room automation server that consolidates DALI-2 lighting control, KNX building automation, BACnet/IP BMS integration, and HVAC logic programming into a single device — managing up to 10 rooms or one small floor from one unit. For hotel chains and commercial office developers requiring BACnet BMS compatibility alongside KNX lighting and DALI luminaire control, the LGATE-900 eliminates the need for separate DALI gateways, KNX-BACnet gateways, and individual room controllers.

LGATE-900 hardware architecture

The LGATE-900 (DIN-rail, 8 modules wide, 24V DC supply) has: 2 × DALI lines (2 × 64 = 128 DALI devices), 1 × KNX TP port (individual address, ETS6 programmable), 2 × RS-485 ports (Modbus RTU master for FCU/heat pump/sub-meter integration), 1 × Ethernet (BACnet/IP server, REST API, LOYTEC L-bus communication with LSTAT room units), analogue I/O (4 × 0-10V input, 4 × 0-10V output for non-bus HVAC interfaces). The LGATE-900 has an internal 32-bit ARM processor running the L-Studio programming environment — all room logic (HVAC PI control, lighting dimming curves, blind logic, occupancy state machine) executes locally without cloud dependency. LOYTEC L-Studio: a function block programming tool (IEC 61131-3 FBD-like, graphical, Windows application) for commissioning and logic programming. L-Studio runs on a commissioning laptop, connects to LGATE-900 via Ethernet.

DALI commissioning in LOYTEC LINX Configurator

LINX Configurator (separate from L-Studio, also Windows) handles DALI bus commissioning. Connection: Ethernet to LGATE-900. DALI scan: LINX > DALI Line 1 > Scan — finds all connected ballasts/drivers with random addresses. Short address assignment: LINX > Identify device (flashes) > assign short address 0-63. Group assignment: Group 0 (All Line 1), Group 1 (Corridor), Group 2 (Meeting Room), Group 3 (Reception). Emergency ECG: identified by DALI Part 202 capability flag in scan — assign to Group 14 (standard reserved group for emergency). Scene programming: LINX > Scenes tab > select scene 0 (Presentation) > set group levels: Group 1 = 80%, Group 2 = 90%, Group 3 = 75% > Store. EN 50172 test schedule: LINX > Emergency tab > Monthly function test: Day 1, 03:00 > Annual duration test: October 15, 02:00 > Write schedule to LGATE-900. Test results published as BACnet Analog Value objects: AV 100 = last test date, AV 101 = fail count, BV 50 = emergency ECG fault flag.

KNX group address mapping in L-Studio

L-Studio function block programming (HVAC and KNX logic): create a new L-Studio project, add LGATE-900. KNX module in L-Studio: drag KNX data point blocks into program — each KNX DP block links to a KNX group address (manually enter GA as 1/1/0 format, select DPT). Example room 1 function block network: KNX DP [Card Switch, GA 10/1/0, DPT 1.002] → Room State Machine FB [input: presence, output: occupied/unoccupied] → HVAC PI Controller FB [setpoint 21°C comfort / 18°C economy] → KNX DP [HVAC setpoint, GA 10/1/4, DPT 9.001]. KNX DP [Presence from PIR, GA 10/1/5, DPT 1.002] → OR logic → Room State Machine (supplementary presence input). DALI scene output: Room State Machine occupied → DALI Group 1 Scene 1 via LGATE-900 internal DALI API. Room State Machine unoccupied → DALI Group 1 Scene 0 (off). Manual override: KNX DP [DND flag, GA 10/1/1, DPT 1.001] → DND = 1 → inhibit auto HVAC economy mode (guest override).

BACnet/IP integration for BMS

LGATE-900 BACnet server: each KNX data point, DALI device level, and HVAC PI output is automatically published as a BACnet object in LGATE-900's internal BACnet device. BACnet device instance: configurable in L-Studio (e.g. 10001 for LGATE-900 unit 1). BACnet object types: KNX DPT 9.001 (temperature, float) → Analog Input; KNX DPT 1.001 (binary) → Binary Input; DALI group level → Analog Input (0.0-100.0%); HVAC setpoint (writable) → Analog Value; DND flag → Binary Value. Siemens Desigo CC integration: BACnet driver → Add device → LGATE-900 IP address, device instance 10001 → Auto-import object list → Assign room temperature, occupancy, and DALI level objects to Desigo CC floor plan graphics and alarm management. COV subscriptions: BMS subscribes to fast-changing BACnet objects (room temperature, door status) for < 1s update latency without polling. Trend logging: Desigo CC logs room temperature history from BACnet AI → hourly average → ISO 50001 EnMS comfort performance indicator.

LSTAT touchscreen room unit configuration

The LSTAT-8x0 (5" colour touchscreen, PoE 802.3af, DIN-rail or wall-mount) connects to LGATE-900 via Ethernet using LOYTEC proprietary L-bus protocol (TCP/IP on the building LAN). L-Studio: create LSTAT page layout (visual graphics editor): add room name, temperature setpoint slider (links to HVAC PI setpoint data point), lighting scene buttons (links to DALI scene commands), blind position slider (links to KNX blind actuator GA), DND/MUR buttons (links to KNX DPT 1.001 GA). Up to 10 LSTAT units per LGATE-900 (one per room). LSTAT commissioning: after L-Studio program is downloaded to LGATE-900, each LSTAT auto-discovers its configuration from LGATE-900 IP — no individual LSTAT programming required. LSTAT push notification: maintenance alert (DALI ECG failure, filter alarm) displayed as push notification on LSTAT screen in reception/FM office room. Hotel check-in welcome screen: LGATE-900 receives PMS check-in webhook via REST API → sets room state to "arriving" → LSTAT displays "Welcome, [guest name]" message → auto-dismiss after 60 seconds.
