Hoval Ultrasource Heat Pump: BACnet/IP to KNX Integration via LOYTEC
Hoval Ultrasource B and Thermalia heat pumps run on the Hoval TopTronic E controller, which provides a BACnet/IP interface. KNX integration uses a BACnet/IP-to-KNX gateway (LOYTEC LGATE-950 or Intesis BACnet/IP-to-KNX) to bridge Hoval building data into a KNX automation system.
TopTronic E BACnet/IP Setup
Hoval TopTronic E (touch panel on heat pump): menu path 'Settings > Communication > BACnet'. Enable BACnet/IP: set IP address (static, same subnet as KNX gateway). BACnet device ID: set uniquely per device (e.g. 1000 for heat pump 1, 1001 for heat pump 2). UDP port 47808 (default BACnet/IP port).
On the gateway/laptop: use BACnet Browser (Yabe — free open-source tool) to verify the TopTronic E is discoverable. Discover device at 192.168.x.x:47808. Object list should show 10-30 objects depending on TopTronic E version.
BACnet Object List (TopTronic E)
Analogue Input objects (read-only): - AI:0 Outdoor temperature, degrees C - AI:1 Supply flow temperature circuit 1, degrees C - AI:2 Return temperature circuit 1, degrees C - AI:3 DHW (domestic hot water) temperature, degrees C - AI:4 Buffer tank temperature (if buffer present), degrees C - AI:5 Heat pump compressor discharge temperature, degrees C
Analogue Output objects (read/write setpoints): - AO:0 Heating curve offset, degrees C (write -5 to +5 to shift entire heating curve up or down) - AO:1 DHW setpoint, degrees C
Binary Input objects (read-only): - BI:0 Compressor running (TRUE/FALSE) - BI:1 Alarm active (TRUE/FALSE) - BI:2 Defrost cycle active (TRUE/FALSE)
Binary Output objects (writable): - BO:0 Heat pump on/off command
LOYTEC LGATE-950 Configuration
LOYTEC LGATE-950 (BACnet/IP client + KNX TP gateway): web configuration at http://lgate-ip. Add BACnet device: IP 192.168.1.150, port 47808, device ID 1000. Click 'Discover Objects' — LGATE-950 reads full TopTronic E object list. Map objects to KNX:
- AI:0 (outdoor temp) -> KNX DPT 9.001 GA 6/7/0 (read, cyclic 5min) - AI:1 (flow temp) -> KNX DPT 9.001 GA 6/7/1 - AO:1 (DHW setpoint) -> KNX DPT 9.001 GA 6/7/20 (read+write, write triggers BACnet write) - BI:1 (alarm) -> KNX DPT 1.005 GA 8/0/10 (read, on change)
All mapping is persistent in LGATE-950 flash — survives power loss without reprogramming.
SG Ready Integration
Hoval Ultrasource B supports SG Ready 2-contact on TopTronic E terminal board (SG1, SG2). Wire to KNX binary output (MDT AKK relay output, 24VAC). KNX logic: when utility sends SG Ready boost signal (e.g. via Tibber cheap tariff hours GA): relay SG2 closes (state 3 = boosted setpoint). TopTronic E raises heating curve setpoint by configured boost delta (typically +3 degrees C).
Multiple Hoval Units via GreenController
For buildings with multiple Hoval heat pumps: use Hoval GreenController (dedicated BMS). GreenController aggregates all Hoval units via Modbus RTU or proprietary Hoval bus. GreenController exposes a single BACnet/IP interface (one BACnet device) to LGATE-950. This simplifies KNX integration — one LGATE-950 gateway handles the entire Hoval system regardless of unit count.
