Distech ECLYPSE Controller: KNX Integration via BACnet/IP

Distech ECLYPSE Overview

Distech Controls ECLYPSE Connected series (EC-BOS-8, EC-Net-AX) are BACnet/IP native building controllers used for HVAC control in commercial buildings across Europe. Their graphical programming environment and open-protocol architecture make them popular for medium-to-large office buildings, hotels, and retail centres.

KNX Integration via DTE-KNX Module

The primary KNX integration method uses the Distech DTE-KNX module, an optional plug-in card for ECLYPSE controllers. The DTE-KNX creates a transparent KNX/BACnet bridge: it connects to KNX TP bus and maps KNX group objects to BACnet objects (analog input/output, binary input/output) within the ECLYPSE object list.

ETS6 Configuration

Import the Distech DTE-KNX ETS product database entry into ETS6. Configure group objects for each data point: room temperature (DPT 9.001), setpoint (DPT 9.001), valve position (DPT 5.001), fan speed (DPT 5.001). Each KNX group object, once commissioned in ETS6, appears as a corresponding BACnet object in ECLYPSE.

ENVYSION Programming

ECLYPSE engineering uses the ENVYSION web-based software with drag-and-drop graphical programming. In ENVYSION, create a BACnet binding from the KNX room temperature BACnet object to the ECLYPSE HVAC control loop setpoint input. The HVAC control program then uses the live KNX room temperature for PID-based valve control without any additional scripting.

Alternative: LOYTEC LGATE-950

For installations where adding a DTE-KNX card is not practical, use LOYTEC LGATE-950 as a standalone KNX/BACnet router. The LGATE connects to ECLYPSE via BACnet/IP and to KNX TP bus. Configure mapping tables in the LGATE web interface — no ETS programming of the LGATE itself is required.

BACnet COV Subscription

ECLYPSE BACnet/IP uses default UDP port 47808 (hexadecimal 0xBAC0). ECLYPSE supports BACnet COV (Change of Value) subscription. The LOYTEC LGATE can subscribe to COV notifications from ECLYPSE rather than polling at fixed intervals, reducing network traffic and improving response time for fast-changing values like valve position.

KNX-to-BACnet Data Flow

KNX to BACnet direction: room occupancy button sends KNX telegram to LGATE, LGATE writes BACnet Binary Input BI:1 on ECLYPSE, ECLYPSE HVAC program detects occupancy and adjusts setpoint for occupied mode.

BACnet-to-KNX Data Flow

BACnet to KNX direction: ECLYPSE calculates optimal setpoint based on outdoor temperature reset curve and time schedule, writes BACnet Analog Output AO:12, LGATE maps AO:12 to KNX group address for room controller setpoint, MDT room controller executes the setpoint on the heating valve.

Commissioning Verification

BACnet explorer tools such as YABE (Yet Another BACnet Explorer) and BACnet Scan are useful for verifying object discovery and current values before configuring LGATE mapping tables. Always verify BACnet object values with an explorer tool before mapping — this confirms that ECLYPSE is correctly reading KNX values via the DTE-KNX module.
